Traditionally, dance prizes are awarded during the Nederlandse Dansdagen. Including the Oscars of Dutch dance, the Association of Theater and Concertgebouw Directors (VSCD) Zwanen, for most impressive dance production and most impressive dance performance. In addition to these recognition prizes, the Nederlandse Dansdagen itself also awards incentive prizes to emerging makers.
The Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht, established in 2007, is a national incentive prize for a talented maker. Each year, the prize money of 10,000 euros gives the winning choreographer the opportunity to actually realize the pitched idea for new work and have it premiered during the next edition of the festival.
The same applies to the Prize of the Dutch Dance Days Young Audience, but this prize is specifically aimed at makers for the younger target group from 4 to 18 years. This prize was established 10 years after the Maastricht prize was published, during the 20th edition of the Festival.
