‘Winner of the Prize of theNederlandse Dansdagen Young Audience 2020’
Stuk, is een nieuwe situatie is an interdisciplinary, living composition where the young audience and their adult entourage can roam around to their heart's desire. Choreographer Anne-Beth Schuurmans, scenographer Elian Smits and composer Dennis van Tilburg collected materials, methods and techniques, devices and other things, movements, sounds and colors to build a breathing, ever-changing world. Layer upon layer, with dance, image and music, they build a work with the audience in which new situations are constantly created.
“I recognize the curiosity of young children and share their desire to explore, their surrender and desire for immersion, which comes so easily.”
During this afternoon Anne-Beth will present her working method.
Anne-Beth Schuurmans (1976) is a dancer and choreographer. She has been making her own work since 2006, and since 2009 specifically for the youngest and their adult entourage, with a preference for interdisciplinary exchange between artists and the audience. Before that she danced with Truus Bronkhorst & Marien Jongewaard and Danstheater Aya. Together with Marie-Rose Mayele Venneman she has formed Cie sQueezz since 2012. In 2020 Anne-Beth won the Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Young Audience. With the prize money she developed new work that would premiere during the previous edition (2021) of the Nederlandse Dansdagen. Due to the corona measures, the work process has shifted and can be experienced during this edition of the festival.
"My audience is a very special audience. They are small in size and experience the world in 'the moment'. The little ones are incredibly good at making unusual connections. You could call it playing. They motivate me to abstract information, in instead of explaining. I learn from them to understand the world better and give a deeper meaning to things. I recognize the curiosity of young children and share their desire to discover, their surrender and craving for immersion, which comes so naturally to them.”
